Rail Heritage WA was the first rail preservation group formed in WA.
Our members and volunteers have been working to preserve and present WA's railway heritage since 1959.

After a fantastic response from the Western Australian community to our ‘Raise the Roof’ launch, we are now seeking partnerships, sponsorships and in-kind support to enable infrastructure community grants to build a preservation and maintenance facility and additional roof cover at the Railway Museum.

This is now critical with the impact of increased frequency of extreme weather events. As a registered charity, your donations are tax deductible. We are seeking campaign donations, letters of intent to fund and in-kind support. Your contribution is needed to support our application for community infrastructure grants in 2026.

Today Rail Heritage WA:

• operates the Railway Museum in Bassendean
• carries out restoration of heritage equipment and vehicles
• has an extensive railway archives
• publishes and sells publications of railway-related material
• is a major partner in the South West Rail & Heritage Centre at Boyanup
• lobbies for the preservation and restoration of WA's rail heritage
• has members with interests in every aspect of railway operations and
• owns the Leschenault Lady vintage train now being restored at Boyanup

It depends entirely on its volunteers to manage the organisation and its extensive activities.
